FAQs

  • We support the advancement of organized hockey in the greater Methow Valley region, with a mission to teach our members ice sports, team play and individual skills through clinics and team competition. Our emphasis is on sportsmanship, cooperation, fun, self-discipline, self-confidence, and respect for others. We operate in partnership with the Winthrop Rink.

  • Sorry folks. The MHL is a stand alone program. To join any of the rink's drop-in hockey programs (drop-in, stick and puck, skills night) you have three options: buy a Hockey Season Pass ($295), buy a hockey punch card ($100 for 12 sessions, sold at the counter), or pay a-la-carte ($12 each, sold at the counter).

  • The MHL’s 15-week regular season goes from November 1, 2023, to February 14, 2024. League games are played on Wednesday nights.

    Game 1 goes from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

    Game Two is 7:45 - 8:45

    Game Three is 9:00 - 10:00

Week-to-week, teams will rotate between the early, middle, and late game times. The league doesn’t play on Dec. 27 or Feb. 21.

  • The playoffs are three rounds. Round One is single elimination and will be played on February 28. Round Two is a a three team round-robin played on March 3. And Round Three is a championship game on March 8.

  • The Methow Hockey League is a great fit for players ages 18+ who are able to compete at an Intermediate level or higher but at least one year of competitive experience is required. It is important that you are able to participate in all of the games.

  • Don’t worry, Jeff. Keep practicing and you’ll get there. Learning new things is hard. Hang in there buddy.

  • Oh, ok. Methow Hockey is a community made up of players with a wide range of abilities. League games are designed to be safe for all players.

Players are expected to play within their capacity (don’t become a bowling ball!), and compete at an appropriate level to the situational skill level of each game (cool it, hot dog!).

If a player is endangering others, the commissioners and/or referees will give them one warning. A second warning will result in a 3 minute penalty. And the third warning will be an ejection, plus a 3 minute bench penalty.

  • The season is 17 weeks long, including a 15-week regular season (November 1 -February 14), and a 3-week playoffs.

Teams will play once a week on Wednesdays, rotating between the early and late games. Each game will be one-hour long. It will be 3 periods of reffed and scorekept merriment.

  • That depends on the number of registrants. We need a minimum of 60 players to create 6 teams. We try to cap the maximum size of teams at 13 players and 1 goalie.

  • Great question. It is no secret the Methow Valley has a goalie shortage. We are actively recruiting goalies and offer a 100% discount to anyone committing to play the season in net. Please note that, this year, we are not allowing goalies to play for more than one team. We also are not allowing teams to dress 6 skaters and playing with an empty net. A rostered player from every team must be playing in goal during all games.

  • Players will be placed on a team through a pre-season captains’ draft. Captains are chosen by the MHL’s Commissioners, and they all work together to create teams that are balanced in age-range, hockey skill, and social dynamic. You can request to play with a specific team and/or players. Teams are announced at the annual Draft Announcement Party (time and place, TBD).

  • No one really knows.

    jk. (sorta)

The Commissioners choose captains each season. A player may only be captain for 2 concurrent seasons, after which they must take 1 season off before serving as captain again. Do you have a natural knack for leadership? Desire to encourage a team of people? Just plain like to boss people around? Well then we want to hear from you! If you are interested in being a captain of one of the 4 teams, make your claim via this Google Form.
